In the Bible, the word 'church' refers to a community, not to a building. Where modern translations use <church> (e.g. Cor.14:23: "If therefore the whole church be come together into one place...") Wulfila used <aíkklesjo> [ekkle:sjo:]. We have no direct evidence as to what word Gothic had for 'church' as a Christian temple ('temple' in general was <gudhu:s>, which may be <oikia kurike:> calqued into Gothic).
