[a-e] instead of [ye] might be difficult for
that crowd of people (read: it isn't!) who have
for a long time tended to create diphtongs in
virtual any situation. But, if in the cases of
"perdere, ferbere, fer, pept+ar/k^ept+ar,
mâne, câne, pâne" (still valid North & East of
the Carpathian range), that crowd o' people
have (recently) won, the redoubt "aer" hasn't
been conquered as yet. (Perhaps, its conquest
will have taken place in the 2nd half of the century. :)
