The article (-(i)llam). In the case of <stella> also the ending of
the word itself.

capra > caprã
capram illam > caprã-wa > caprãa > capra

This is the normal development: -wa becomes -a, -ãa > -a.

diem > zi
diem illam > zi-wa = ziua (but also: zi-le)

After a vowel other than -ã, -wa can remain unchanged, as in this
case.

stellam > steawã > (Arom.) steao, (DRom.) stea

The normal development of -wã- is -o- (Aromanaian steawã > steao).
But in final position, Daco-Romanian has -wã > -ã (stea-wã > steaã)
and -aã > -a.

stellam illam > steawã-wa > steao-a > steaua

Here we have regular -wã- > -o, and regular -wa > -a everywhere,
giving stea-o-a > steaua, as expected.
