Karpathians= mountains
Antroponims in Romania: Carpat and Carpitus ( County Harghita)
Similars: Carpasio (Italia), Carpina (Brasil), Carpinteria (Argentina),
Karpasz (Poland), Karpasia (Cyper).

Ancient similarities:
the actual Scarpanto known as Krapatos (see Homer, Iliada II.668;
Argonautica 3)
the word is to find by Ptolemy (Geograph. III.5.6-20) mentioning the
Karpates Oros on the theritory of actual Romania.
Avienus ( IV AC) mentions the meaning of this mountains as " Crapathus ,
hic rupes attoutur", in Descr. Orb. 671 (4)

I verified just in Iliada and there is indeed the word as Chrapatus. I
have no posiblity to verify Aviens .In Ptolemy the word is Carpathus (
unfortunately I don't have the original text, just a translation into
english).
Maybe there are some better references.

Alternative name: Kaukausus mountains, Riphaes Mountains, later Karpates
Oros
