PIE *ghe(n)d
Lat : prehendo which is compound from prai-hendo= to get (fassen)
Greek : kandano = to get (fassen)
Alb : gendem = to find
ocs : gadaty = to suppose
Kymrish: genni = to understand
Rom : gândi = to think
The Rom. word is given from Hungarian "ghond". As usual the Albanian
word is phoneticaly very close to Romanian but the meaning is not
identical. More, this word is mentained just in dacoromanian, in
aromanian the word for "to think" is "minteni" from "minte"=
understanding, from Latin "mentis".
I have a problem with Hungarian "gond" not because /o/ before /nC/
should have become /u/ in DacoRom. ( see neologisms as ponton, conta,
etc) but there seems imposible to get from /o/ an /â/.Beside of this I
am not sure the semantic aspect will matches.
Mr. George, it seems you are the only one here how know Hungarian. What
is the meaning of the Hungarian word "gond"?
