Slavic *tro~tU/*tro~dU means precisely 'drone'

Unknown? The Polish word for 'bee-garden, apiary' is <pasieka>. Its original meaning was 'forest clearing' (from *sek- 'cut', a memory of ancient beekeeping methods), for which the current word is <przesieka> (the same verb root with a different prefix). *pri-seka is a distinct possibility in Slavic alongside *pa-seka and *per-seka (although I don't know if the word is actually attested).
