A few more etymologies. From the letter "T". H is
Jerome. O is Ps.(?)-Origen.

TABITA: damna, vel caprea (J) caprea silvestris (O)
TABEEL: bonus Deus (J) bona dei ipsa (O)
TANIS: mandans humilia (J) mandatum humile (O)
TAPHNES: insanum os serpentis (J) stupens os serpentis
(O)
TIBERIUS: visio eius sive bonitas eius (J) bonus vel
indulgentia (O)
TYCHICUS: tacens (J) silens (O)

Some of O's etymologies J did not accept. Thus:

TROCHOS: quatuor facies (O) "Graecum est" (J)

Here's a few more NT names directly from J (LDNH: Acts
of the Apostles). Note once again that J occasionally
felt that O's Hebrew etymologies were "forced".

ANDREAS: decus in statione vel respondens pabulo, sed
hoc violentum. Melius autem est, ut secundum Graecam
etymologiam "a viro" "virilis" appelletur.
ALEXANDER: auferens angustiam tenebrarum, sed et hoc
violentum.
a Marte nomen accipit. [NB: no problem in drawing on
pagan lore (:=)) GK]
AQUILA: dolens, sive parturiens.
ACHAIA: soror laborans.

Apparently, then, J did not feel that Tychicus as
"silens" or "tacens" was an overly forced etymology,
at least compared to e.g. Alexander as above.
