No way. It's a well-known IE _verb_ root and the meaning is 'strike, pound, forge' practically everywhere (Lat. cu:do:, Lith káuti, PGmc. *hauw-an-). Cf. Slavic *kyjI 'heavy stick, hammer'. The structure of the verbs containing this root shows them to be primary, not denominal. The Slavic words for 'shoe a horse' and 'horseshoe' are not even direcly derived from the basic verb but from the prefixed form (with <pod->), i.e. the meanings in question are derived and specialised.
