Servius was one of the main commentators on Vergil whose words have
survived. It does not make him the best, or correct!

The sow and her piglets are an answer to a prophecy. Aeneas is told Rome
will be founded where he sees the pig. But I can't remember where the
prophecy comes from - could be book 3, 5, or 6.

Yes, Vergil is being subtle, but not obscure to a Roman. His references are
only obscure to us, hence the need for a good commentary - which alas I no
longer have!
