Yes, there's still some hoopla about the exact classification
of Japanese and Korean. At least with Japanese, I know that
there is ample evidence of, at the very least, Altaic elements
in the language. Whether we want to place Japanese within the
Altaic family or consider it an isolate, the fact remains that
these elements are instructive to the study of Altaic.
