Probably aga- + *mén-mo:n 'staunch in battle' (cf. meno: 'stand fast, abide', Menela:os < *mene-la:wos. The prefix <aga-> occurs in several other old names as well as common adjectives like <aga-klutós> 'very famous' or (Homeric) <agá-nnipHos> (*-snigWHos) 'very snowy'.
