I'm looking forward to Yaron Matras's _Romani: A Linguistic Introduction_ (to be published this year by CUP).

There's a whole collection of articles in PDF format on various aspects of Romani at:

Romani historical phonology is a vast subject, as there are many old dialectal divisions within Romani, e.g. as regards the treatment or Indo-Aryan retroflexes or of the voiced aspirated series (the "phen" group, where bH > pH, vs. the "ben" group, where bH > b; <pHen/ben> 'sister' < bHagini:). The numerals 7-9 in many dialects of Romani are indeed borrowed from (early modern) Greek, as are decad names like <tr(ij)anda, saranda> '30, 40', while <bis^> '20' and <s^el> '100' are inherited Indo-Aryan items.
