"Lenzmond" means "March". This elder German month names were almost disappeared, but the Nazis propagated this "pure" German name. This has also happened in Dutch.

januari: louwmaand [tanning month]
februari: sprokkelmaand [month of gattering wood (distorted from Latin Spurcalia)]
maart: lentemaand [spring month]
april: grasmaand [grass month]
mei: bloeimaand [flourish month]
juni: zomermaand [summer month]
juli: hooimaand [hay month]
augustus: oogstmaand [harvest month (oogst < augustus, so it's actually a contamination)]
september: herfstmaand [autumn month]
oktober: wijnmaand [wine month]
november: slachtmaand [slaughter month]
december: wintermaand [winter month]

A quick query:

I have recently seen a letter written from Germany in 1935, dated "Lenzmond" (literally "spring month" or "Lent month").  I know the Nazis renamed months (amongst other things such as human beings) so I guess it is probably March, but none of my dictionaries contain it.  Anyone know for sure?
