Erh, I don't think I said just that.

They often are. My own impression, though, is that "Herul-" and erila-
/erla- have probably got the same etymology. Not because they are too
similar to be unrelated, but merely because I can't think of a
plausible alternative analysis of "Herul-".

Tacitus(?) says the Germani worshiped Hercules. If his name went
unchanged (sort of) between Greek, Romans and Etruscans, the Germani
might have known him under the same name.
