Well, Lith. N. óbuolos, Latv. âbuols point to a paradigm *h2ábo:l(s),
*h2bél-os ~ *h2b-l-ós, which would have given Slavic *a:ba:l- / *obl-.
 
What is your source for óbuolos? It's (N.sg.) obuoly~s in Standard Lithuanian.

smagùs means 'cheerful, merry' in Standard Lithuanian. It seems Latvians and Lithuanians perceive the world in differrent ways
