*****GK: Linguists to the rescue! I always thought
that "Attila" was simply a diminutive of the Gothic
"Atta"=father, hence "Little Father". Is an
alternative possible? Maenchen-Helfen has a large list
of Hunnic names in his work some of which he
identifies as Iranic. Could we go even further
southeastward (from a Central European
perspective)?****
