Chernykh in his etym. dictionary and some author whose name I forgot
offer a Turkic as a source - from some Turkic language's word (aGyz
or so) meaning 'jaws;beak', thus 'beaky'. The problem is that the
meaning 'stork' seems not to be registered for word or its
derivatives in the Turkic languages themselves. I don't know if such
a stork's name can be supported typologically.
