"Worship, adore, venerate" would better gloss both the Sanskrit and the Avestan terms. Perhaps there was an extended variant *jeg^d-/*ig^d- (cf. *g^Heud- fron *g^Heu- 'pour a libation'). It would account for <i:l->/<i:d.-> 'praise' rather nicely.
