I looked in my Duden Herkunftswoerterbuch and it actually did not have an
entry for 'doch.' After the shock wore off, I realized that 'doch' is
probably cognate with the English word, 'though.' I doubt 'doch' and 'donc'
are related. Perhaps donc is a contraction of some earlier romance form,
d', de+ onc?
