derivation of <det> from PIE *dHeub(H)-eto- 'the deep', with the same
root that is visible e.g. in English <deep>.
Then your thoughts will run to the real Albanian word for <deep>
which is <thell->.
Has it also derived from PIE *dHeub(H)- ?
From my naive point of view the case "sea" (det) has to be taken
seriously if one has to prove the origin of Albanians (undependently
if it has or not to do with the Greek God of the Sea, Theti).
If proto Albanians lived somewhere deep in the continent, then they
didn´t have any contact with the sea, but probably with lakes.
So when they first met the sea they would have though of a lake and
would have called it "a lake" = "liqen, gjol".
But "det" looks to be very original. It might even speak about the
concept of the sea as a sea (not as a lake) proto Albanians had.
If the word "det" is to be as old as the time when the area was
populated by Illyrians then this must speak about a an Illyrian
connection.
It is hard to believe proto Albanians could give an original name to
something they hadn´t seen.
They could very well had borrowed the Latin word "Mar´", as the Slavs
looks to have done "More".
