As I recal, the slavs in the area of what is now know as Kiev, went to
Sweden and asked prince Rurik to bring order to their chaotic lives. The
term 'rus' is the Swedish name for the 'slavic' tribes they subdued and
settled. Kievan Rus is the 'nation' that resulted.
