Yes. Pokorny offers (13) *wer- (usually reduplicated) = squirrel, polecat,
marten, and the like (page 1166). The fact that there are thirteen
distinct roots *wer makes me a little suspicious, but I suppose it's not
impossible, if there were further differentiation through endings and
suffixes and such.
