Some people link him with IE *welkw- "fire, shine, gleam", cf. Sanskrit ulka
"metteor" and varcas "shine", name of a minor god. And about Germanic smith
Volundr? Can be he < *Walhundaz < *Wolkw-ntos ?
Other people link him with Cretan Velkhanos and Etrusque Velxans.
Unfortunately there'so little information about Roman mythologie before the
Greek influences. We don't have such like a Roman Cosmogony...
