Yes, I could swear I've read this too. If we use my Old European
mythological structure, we might be tempted to interpret the act as a way of
"re-animating" the spirit of the dead one - whether for purposes of an
afterlife or maybe even to initiate the process of reincarnation. Just a
thought, at least.
