About the drop of intervocalic N in basque, I think it is not similar to
portuguese, because (I think) in basque the drop of N does not nasalize the
preceeding vowel.
About the french: the brazilian linguist Mattoso Camara Jr. compared the
nasalization in portuguese with that of french, and concluded that in
french we have true nasalization, but in portuguese, no. His argument: in
french we can oppose a nasalized vowel with a non-nasalized vowel followed
by a nasal consonant: bon (bõ) vs. bonne (bon, with open o, but this is
caused by other circumstances). So, he concluded that in portuguese, we
don't have true nasal vowels, but vowels followed by a nasal consonant
which disappears in surface.
