It doesn't look much like a dog to modern eyes bedazzled by the

Hollywood special effects, but in the old, old days before Jurassic
Park's T-Rex, they had more liberal imaginations. As constellations
go,
Canis Major is one of the dozen or so constellations that actually
look
like something. Orion, Scorpio, Cygnus, and Delphinus are the only
others that are vaguely recognizable. Taurus looks like a bull only
to
the extent that you take a "V" to mean horns. Gemini looks like a
coffin. Aquarius, Cetus, and Ophiuchus don't look like anything.
