No need to double-star *(s)welkW-
'drag, pull (also a plough), worry (as of dogs and wolves)'. The root survives
e.g. in Slavic *welk- 'drag' (Polish inf. wlec
< *welk-ti:, 3 sg. wlekę <
*welk-oN). The zero grade *sw@...- can be seen
in Latin sulcus, Old English sulh
'furrow'.
