Johnit's just ordinary Latin rhotacism (intervocalic *s > *z > r), as in flo:s 'flower', gen. flo:ris, or tempus, pl. tempora (< *tempos, *tempos-a). Aurum 'gold' is likewise from *aus-o-m. Older *-rs- regularly gives Latin -rr-.Piotr
