This is clearly what the archaeological evidence seems to show. At one
time I thought the movement onto the Steppes may have been north from
Iran, (which is one reconstruction that seems to make genetic sense)
but this has not been demonstrated archaeoligically at all. What do
you mean by "I don't know about this?"

Nope, they seem to have developed over a fairly long period from an
Aurignacian substrata. Any fit here?
