This proposal contradicts the evidence of the Sumerians themselves that
they came from Dilmun (Bahrein), and settled first at Eridu (the most
southern Sumerian city), and did not settle further north than Kish.

The Sumerians arrived over a pre-Sumerian substratum (which may have
been closer to Elamic), for which place names, agricultural products
and a number of professions all give evidence.
