The regular form is deu > dieu > zeu. The change e > ã occurs after labials and
before -u (pilu > peru > pãr, me:lu > meru > mãr, fe:tu > fetu > fãt). Perhaps
the variant <zãu> is due to a slightly labialized pronunciation of initial
/(d)z/?
