LOS ANGELES Pioneering UCLA linguistics professor Peter Ladefoged has
died. He was 80. Ladefoged died Tuesday at a London hospital after getting
sick while on his way home from a research trip to India. Ladefoged made
it his life's work to record the parts of speech used in human languages.
