Seems to me that how text is rendered is on-topic, for it surely involves
writing systems. Computer typography is surely 21st century "writing",
after all!

(Passionate or other disagreements get my attention if they say
"[off-list]"! OK with me if you use that as a flag to get my attention for
an on-list message, although it might look like a mistake. Sorry; not
doing incoming-message triage well.)

You might also like to try SC Unipad; free version is restricted to 1,000
chars, iirc.

All Qalamites, imho, should know about Unipad, although, unfortunately,
it's for MS only. I do hope Macs have something as good, or better.

Look into Yudit, as well: <http://www.yudit.org/>
It's for the X Window System, found on Linux and Unix; I don't know about
compatibility with Mac's OS X, but the Unix underpinnings of OS X give one
hope.
Yudit's author wanted, some time back, to include both Japanese and
Hungarian into one document.

Will probably respond on Suzanne's blog; can't promise.
