I believe Barry said that he was glad he hadn't signed his last
name, refering to a recent post, not that he had *never* signed it.
He certainly has.
BTW My closest Deaf (first lg oral or cued English) friends are
sociable, employed, married, well-educated, both expectant fathers -
a far cry from Jeannie. (I think that comment of yours deserves a
response because I am familiar with Jeannie's case and that is a
serious accusation).
One, a colleague, told me he was deaf after we had been working
together closely for several months. He said that since I was so
easy to lipread it was not an issue. Actually I forgot he was deaf
until after our discussion.
The deaf couple plan to bring up their child with cued English if it
is deaf and they don't really care what anyone élse says about it
because that is their first lg and they are university educated in
English. They speak ASL also but as a 2nd lg.
So live and let live. Take pleasure in their happiness. We should
rejoice in other people's success not defame it.
