Indeed. You can read the TrueType spec, or the TrueType Open spec, or
the OpenType spec (whichever you're interested in) from the MS
Typography site. You can also read the Truetype spec from Apple's site
-- it will contain information about the additional tables in Apple's
TrueTypeGX and AAT extensions to TrueType.

Of course, if you want to read about various Adobe font formats, you'll
