This experience should not prevent you from referring to more
recent research. I can still remember the details of my first class
in ASL training and the subsequent interaction I had with ASL
instructors in the Deaf community but this does not prevent me
from reading research.

Yes.

I was quoting from the Gallaudet website from the beginning. I
did not post the link because I know how seldom links are
followed. Of course, Gallaudet has the best literacy statistics on
the Deaf.
You may not be aware that Gallaudet and the National
Association of the Deaf no longer consider cochlear implants
child abuse. You are 10 years out of date. The current position
paper of the NAD recognizes the rights of parents to use
cochlear implants and all other assistive devices.
Are you familiar with the case of a Deaf adult and member of a
local NAD association who several years ago had a cochlear
implant and hid that fact from her colleagues because she was
afraid of being shunned? Is this the kind of society you want?
The most important aspect of all of this is that each case must
be considered individually. There must be freedom to consider
all options. Name-calling is out of place.
