Hi Doug,

Thanks for always being willing to respond to my questions!

How about o + k + u = k + ou ?

This would then display properly as o + k + u. Is this possible?

If the user is going to have immediate visual feedback, a not
inconsequential consideration, there would need to be an edit window
to display the original sequence and then a confirm stroke to
conclude and input the sequence, whether syllable or word. This is
what Andrew Dunbar proposed.

However, a month ago I was not entirely sure that visual sequence
key entry was the preferred solution. Now I am. After my encounters
in China I am now convinced that glyph-based or visual matched input
is vital.

I may have little experience with computers but I do have a long
record of work on syllabic literacy. In '91 I recommended very
strongly against encoding long vowels or any syllabics composed with
diacritics for Cree. Unfortuantely many university trained linguists
disagreed with me. They wanted total phonemicization. (I was at a
Cree School Board language conference as an observer for the
Anglican Diocese.) I always spend a lot of time observing how
people use their script as well as how the script displays.

Thanks again for answering my questions.

Regards,

Suzanne McCarthy
