I'm a bit late mentioning it, but visitors to Japan are likely to be
surprised to learn the Japanese pronunciations of a number of romaji
(Romaji?). Anyone who expects to live in Japan should learn them.

I think they are defined in a small paperback book, orange prominent on
the cover, directed toward teaching katakana, and published by Tuttle. If
not there, then another book directed toward easing one's transition into
some part of everyday Japenese society.

While discussing pronunciations, until that glorious day when the IPA is
available to most Qalamites for routine Unicode e-mail, is there an
accepted standard for ASCII equivalents?
