I'm a newcomer to this list.
I apologise if this issue has been tackled before (I
searched through the archive and couldn't find any
reference to it) -- I am looking for information about
bonji (Japanese) / fànzì (Chinese).
More specifically:
* are bonji (a) an alphabet / a syllabary used for
actual writing, or (b) just a set of symbols used for
religious purposes?
* if the answer to the above is (b), then are bonji
used for their real meaning or just for decoration?
* does Unicode cover bonji?
