Jokes apart, it is curious that English uses the two suffixes
interchangeably. In Italian and most other Western languages, the suffixes
"-grafo" and "-grammo" (or whatever they are spelled in other languages)
normaly retain the opposition: "somebody/thing that writes" vs. "something
that is written". A word such as "*ideografo" does not exist in Italian (it
is "ideogramma") but, if existed, it would mean "he who writes with ideas".
