I'm relieved to hear that. I got rather worried when it appeared to
be taking on a life of its own. Things are bad enough with null
allomorphs. I start worrying when I begin to hear them.

I was talking about phones rather than phonemes because a phoneme
can split without any of its phones changing; all one needs is the
loss of the conditioning environment.
