Dear Alyssa,

Thanks for letting us know of the passing of Jim Anderson.

I joined this Palistudy group some years ago because of my connection with Jim.

Although I didn’t have a chance to meet him personally, I had been in contact with Jim since 2009 regarding his work on Nyāsa and the Thanbyin-Ṭīkā.

Jim was a Pali scholar very knowledgeable with the ancient Pali grammars. He enjoyed very much his work.

I agree with Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi that Jim has accumulated a great amount of merit due to his deep involvement with the Dhamma. May all his merits accompany him wherever he is! May all his merits be a strong support for his final liberation!

Best regards,

Dear Alyssa,

Thank you for letting us know this sad news. I did not know Jim Anderson personally, and had no direct personal contact with him except through the Pali Yahoo group. As the coordinator for this group he had done a valuable service over many years. He also seems to have been very knowledgeable about Pali grammatical texts. I trust that, through this work and his devotion to the Dhamma, he has accumulated vast merits that will aid him in the transition to his next existence.

With kind regards,

Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi

Dear all,

I’m so sorry to have to share the news of Jim’s passing with you. My friend Colin and I arrived about an hour ago at the Hospital in Orillia with a fistful of printed email good wishes for Jim from you, only to find out that he passed away yesterday morning at 2AM.

I had very little information about Jim’s condition when I last wrote you; just that he was in hospital and that he was having difficulty communicating. I’ve not yet heard back from Jim’s family, but just reached out to them again and will share any details I can with you if I hear back.

I have no funeral information or know whether Jim’s family has reached out to the Buddhist community. Could you please spread the word within the monastic community that Jim has passed away, so that appropriate prayers, etc. are said?

Regards,

Alyssa
