Hi Bryan,
Thanks for the link. I wondered how you went about typing the special
romanized characters. I did use the Keyman software at one time and I think
it was when I started using the Gandhari Unicode font for typing Pali and
Sanskrit. But at some point many years ago I discovered the Microsoft
Keyboard Layout Creator and made a few simple custom layouts for my own use
which were soon superseded by the much more sophisticated Alt_latin layout
created with the same Microsoft program. This is what Frank Snow used to
create his Pali keyboards for Windows. To solve my problem I'm moving in the
direction of creating a customized layout specific to my needs and wants.
In the early days of this group we used the Velthuis method to type Pali but
over time the unicode characters started appearing and I think it was Lance
and Yuttadhammo who were among the first ones and now it has become pretty
much the norm. For this group it's quite acceptable to use Velthuis or the
Harvard-Kyoto convention if one wishes.
Best wishes,
Jim

Hi Jim,
I've been using

for years, which I've had no problem with for Sanskrit and Pali. the input
method is very simple, two vowels for longs, . + letter for underdots, etc.,
and very easy to turn on and off with just one keystroke (alt + . = on; alt
+ , = off). One can also use it for other languages like French and German,
etc.,
Best wishes,
Bryan

Dear Connie and Royce,
Thank you both for your links. Connie's link is most helpful as it has
installation instructions for Windows 10 whereas the Indology links are
mostly for Indian scripts.
The input method for the alt-latin keyboard layout uses many AltGr dead keys
making it possible to include most of the characters used in Latin-based
European languages like German and French in addition to romanized Pali and
Sanskrit, the ultimated international keyboard layout—e.g. AltGr (right alt)
+ a, a > ā ; AltGr + a, i > ī ; AltGr + u, u > ü and so on.
Best wishes,
Jim
