Bhante,

The last sentence is *probably* more accurately phrased as "Non-muslims also can be punished for using the word Allah to_refer_to_their_God." I don't recall any actual, official punishment for this though, but much saying about the prohibition. I may have already said too much. :-p

With respect,

Dear Jim,

This warning is found in any Buddhist book that is printed in Malaysia for the reason Ven. Rahula gave. Proselytizing of Muslims by non-Muslims can result in jail sentences and flogging. Non-muslims also can be punished for using the word Allah.

Dear Ven. Nyanatusita,

Thanks for the info. I was also thinking the new translation will be a good
candidate for publication by PTS. I had a quick glance at U Narada's
translation of volume one. PTS published his translation of the first two
volumes of the Paṭṭhāna (Conditional Relations). In his Yamaka translation
volume, I was surprised to find a (stamped?) "For Non Muslim Only" notice
following the title page. A first for me.

Best wishes,

Jim

Dear Jim,

I was told a few weeks ago in England that the new Yamaka and commentary
translation is a collaboration between George Shaw and Lance Cousins. It is
probably going to be published by the Pali Text Society.

Best wishes,
Bhikkhu Nyanatusita
