Dear Rahula,

The section you  quote from the navaṭīkā, does not refer to the section of AN and AN-a mentioned by you, but to the sections before that, i.e. to sections 3, 5 and 6. Thus there is no relation to the other text portions quoted by you from the Aṭṭhakathā.  It seems that Sāriputta did not comment on this  section.

Regarding the Aṭṭhakathā, it mainly gives word explanations. The words in italics before ti are quotes from AN. A tentative rendering would be as follows.

9. Pahamakahasappasuttavaṇṇanā
229.

Navame sabhīrū ti saniddo mahānidda niddāyati.

Sappaṭibhayo ti ta nissāya bhaya uppajjati, tasmā sappaibhayo. Mittadubbhī ti pānabhojanadāyakam pi mitta dubbhati hisati.

            Mātugāme pi es’ eva nayo.

„In the ninth frightening means: As one with one’s own sleep (saniddo) it sleeps a deep sleep;

dangerous means: based on this fear arises, therefore it is dangerous (literally with fear, terror);

betraying friends means: it injures (and) hurts a friend, even one that gives drinking and food.

            Concerning women it is exactly the same method (this refers to the meanings of the words susequently used with respect to women)."

10. Dutiyakahasappasuttavaṇṇanā
230.

Dasame ghoraviso ti kakkhaaviso.

Dujjivho ti dvidhā bhinnajivho.

Ghoravisatā ti ghoravisatāya.

            Sesadvaye pi es’ eva nayo.

"In the tenth of virulent venom means: of severe venom;

double-tongued means: of a tongue split in two parts;

the being of virulent venom means: on account of(?) the being of virulent venom (if the reading °visatāya is correct, the abstract in °, used as a nominative in AN, seems to have been understood as an ablative in °ā by the subcommentator explaining it by °āya).

Even concerning the remaining two it is exactly the same method."

Best,
Petra
