It is, I fear, a category mistake to think that because the narrative voice of a text is female that it was writiten by a female.  The Therīgāthā verses may well have been written by men - we shall never know.  For a modern example, see the history of 'George Eliot'.

Dear all,

This is an update on a musical project involving some Therīgāthā verses that
I have mentioned before on this list. Anne Harley, the artistic director,
came to visit me this past Sunday afternoon and brought me up to date. She
happens to be a first cousin of four first cousins of mine and I had met her
only once before in the 70s when she was about 12. In 2012 upon hearing
about my interest in Pali and Buddhism from one of our cousins, she
contacted me about her project on the female mystics of the various
religious traditions. I suggested the Therīgāthā verses to represent
Buddhsim and provided her with links, text and translations and even got
permission from E.G. Kahrs of the Pali Text Society for the composers to
draw from their published works. It seems there are at least 2 composers
(possibly a third) have been working on different compostions for the
Therīgāthā. There may be yet the addition of another composer (a famous one)
if the funding grant can be
procured.

Here's a link to learn more about the Voices of the Pearl project:

Anne presented me with the first CD of the project series to be released. It
is 53 min. long with 17 tracks and she is doing the singing in Biblical
Hebrew, Chinese, and Farsi. The next CD may have the Pali but that probably
won't be for another year.

Best wishes,

Jim
