Re: paccupādi

It so happnes that the Sakuṇagghisutta (S V 146-8) is quoted in the
Sumaṅgalavilāsinī (Sv III 846-7). There the PTS edition has the reading
/paccāpādi/ and its ṛīkā (Sv-pṛ III 32 PTS) has the gloss /paccapādịti
pāvisi/ with a footnote noting the /paccupādi/ reading in the Burmese CS
printed edition and one Sinhalese MS. The reading in the PTS edn. of Sv is
also noted. This suggests that all the MSS (except one) used for collating
this edition of the ṛīkā have the /paccapādi/ reading. A /paccāpādi/ reading
is also worth considering as it can be derived from paṭi + ā (prefix) + a
(augment) + PAD. I'm thinking that /āpajjati/ (to enter into) is closer in
meaning to /pavisati/ than /paṭipajjati/ (to follow).
