Dear List,
Is anyone here familiar with the teaching metaphor described in the
forwarded message below (from a friend) and, if so, can you provide a
reference(s) ?
Best wishes,
Jim

Subject: Unrelated question
I recently came across a reference to a teaching metaphor of the Buddha for
the five hindrances. It uses water for each one of them. For instance, when
an object sits in a bowl of dyed water, the object seems to be the colour of
the dye. Take it out and the object's actual colours are clearly seen. Or
when a strong wind (ill will) blows across the bowl it's not possible to see
what's in the bowl.
Are you familiar with this one? Know what sutta(s) give the full text?
Kind regards,
Morley Chalmers
