thanks a lot for your very helpful and clarifying answers! :-)

So, as far as I can see, the Dhammakaya project (run by scholars and researchers from Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand) IS such a critical Pali edition based on manuscripts. And, important for my dissertation which focuses on the way of translating Pali into Thai, I can't see yet that they will work or are already working on a Thai translation (or any other translation). Anyway, I will write to them in order to get further information.
