Kacc 29

Dear Jim and Pali friends,

Kacc 29 is somewhat confusing. However, the replacements of voiced an not voiced consonants pertaining to the third and first of the voiced and not voiced consonants is easy to identify on the basis of the actual vaggas. The traditional calculation is (1) pa.thamaa is ka, ca, .ta, ta and pa, that is, the first akkhara of the first vagga, followed by the first akkhara of the following vaggas; (3) is consequently ga, ja, .da, da, and ba; the examples mentioned in Kacc-v 29 belong under (3) (a single example, unidentifiable)  and three belonging under (1). All of those mentioned under (1) are from Dhp, two examples, and one from D II.

Regards,
Ole H. Pind
